Cloaks (capes/coats/backs) are a type of back armor in Ashes of Creation.^[4]^[5]

There will be one shoulder capes, full body capes and cloaks. These attach to the player's back slot.^[6]
- Players may choose to show or hide items in their back slot.^[6]
There will be capes (cloaks) with hoods.^[7]
- All hoods, whether part of a complete costume or individual gear, will have the option to be shown or hidden on the character by the player.^[8]
Cloak cosmetic skins can not be applied over costumes.^[9]

Cloak cosmetics

Items on back and belt

Players can set the appearance priority for the items they wish to show in their Back and Belt slots.^[10]^[11]^[12] Only one item can show at a time, and that is determined by player choice.^[13]

There'll be a priority system behind that that'll determine... do I show the Bow if the Greatsword is unequipped or do I show the Polearm if the Greatsword is unequipped.^[12] – Jeffrey Bard

Some ranged or melee abilities require a specific weapon to be equipped. Weapons that are equipped in the character's ranged or offhand slots will automatically swap in and out as required by the skill.^[14]^[15]^[16]
- Weapons are able to be sheathed.^[13]^[17]
- Idle animations will be selectible by players in the character creator.^[18]

Gear slots

We wanted to create something that would handle a couple of different roles, with obviously your equipment slots for what we call a "paper doll", which is that display of your character. Eventually it won't just be a image of your character, we hope to have the 3D character and be able to rotate around, look at what you're wearing. And then we wanted to support a couple of different features here, with some base stats; the equipment, which will show what equipment you have available to quick swap, so you don't have to have your inventory and the screen open; detailed stats for those people who want to get into all of the details; and then of course gear sets. So this is going to be able to swap to your sets of gear quickly; and being able to save different loadouts.^[19] – Colby Marchi

Crowdfunding guild rewards

Guild themed character cloaks were cosmetic rewards for backing at the Leader of Men level or higher in the Kickstarter and Summer crowdfunding campaigns.^[39]

Guild cloaks can not be applied over costumes.^[9]

Guild cloaks will work the same way that accessory appearances from the cosmetic packs work, in that they are applied to the item and take over that appearance. They can not be applied over costumes. ^[9] – Cody Peterson

Kickstarter/Summer crowdfunding guild rewards^[40] are assigned to a guild by the owner of the reward.^[41]

Once assigned, the reward becomes an asset of that guild.^[41]
Guild members that leave the guild no longer have access to the unique items of that guild.^[41]
